SarahCare at Riverdale Place, GA: Meet Youlanda Outin
"I Felt Like She Was Guiding Me"
Youlanda Outin had spent months researching franchise opportunities, weighing her options carefully. She knew she wanted to do something that mattered; she just hadn't found the right fit. Then she saw the SarahCare logo. Kelly green. Her late mother's favorite color.
"I felt like she was guiding me," she says.
It wasn't just the color. The interview process felt different too. A series of unhurried conversations with room between each meeting to sit with what she'd learned. That deliberateness told her something about how SarahCare would treat the people inside her center.
She was right. Today, Youlanda serves as Executive Director of SarahCare at Riverdale Place, which has been part of the community for over 20 years. She's built something special with a hands-on approach her families appreciate.
The Rituals That Have Grown On Their Own
The women at the center look forward to the Tea Socials. Youlanda sets out her mother's china for the occasion, complete with herbal tea and shortbread cookies. The men, meanwhile, have their own corner of the day: action movies and "men talk" while the tea is being poured. The center hums with jazz. These aren't programmed activities so much as rituals that have grown on their own.
Friends, He Didn't Know He'd Find
Walking into SarahCare, you will first meet D., the center's unofficial mayor. He's the first to arrive and the last to leave, greeting everyone as they enter. For him, it's become a true gathering place.
One veteran put it simply, "Because he comes to SarahCare, now he has friends." He looks forward to seeing them every day he's there. When the men greet each other with a fist bump and a "whatsup" nod, just like high schoolers, it makes Youlanda smile. That moment is exactly why she opened the center.
He Forgot His No's
One of Youlanda's regulars came in on his first day, thoroughly prepared to hate it. "Let's just say, he had his 'no's' ready," recalls Youlanda. Then he met the SarahCare staff. By the end of that first day, he'd forgotten every objection he'd planned to make. Now he's one of the center's most vocal cheerleaders.
What Families Notice
Families consistently tell Youlanda they appreciate that she's there, always present with their loved one, keeping them updated, flagging changes in behavior. That's what families searching for adult day centers in Riverdale, GA are often surprised and relieved to find.
It's Hard Work. And It's Worth It.
When Youlanda talks about owning SarahCare at Riverdale Place, she doesn't sugarcoat it. Being an owner-director means learning every part of adult day health care from the inside out. It's hard work.
But she's equally clear about the other part: "The other SarahCare owners are there for you. We are a family." That network has made all the difference in her journey.
