Where Passion, Care, and "Sweet Caroline" Keep Families Together
Since May 2009, Marcia Jarrell and her dedicated staff have been on a mission at SarahCare at Lake Boone Trail: creating meaningful days for seniors with cognitive challenges and giving families something priceless: time, hope, and light at the end of the tunnel.
What started as a vision to provide an upscale alternative to nursing homes has become a lifeline for countless families navigating the journey of dementia care.
Why SarahCare?
Marcia was drawn to SarahCare's upscale atmosphere and the expertise of founder, Dr. Merle Griff, and her team. "I always thought an adult day care center would be a great way to care for loved ones in their homes and keep them out of assisted living,” she explains. "I liked the concept of keeping families together and providing a meaningful day for those with cognitive challenges."
Six More Years Together
Ask Marcia about her most rewarding moment, and one story still stands out. A husband had already found a memory care unit for his wife when he spotted an ad that SarahCare was opening. He decided to check it out, and that decision gave them six more years together at home.
"For years, I would share that story with many family members," Marcia reflects. "Making a difference in their lives together was very special."
That's what SarahCare does: it gives families precious time and the support to keep caring for loved ones at home.
Building Something Special
What surprised Marcia most? The challenge of growth. "Adult day care centers were not well known, so it required not only building brand awareness but also educating the public on the service we provide." It took patience, persistence, and a whole lot of heart, but more than a decade later, the center thrives.
Her advice for future franchisees? "Have patience and understand there are many facets to running your own business. Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you and don’t be afraid to ask for help."
What Families Love
Families consistently tell Marcia they can see the passion and commitment. "They say there is a real positive energy and kindness throughout." AND it's celebrated every day, including the Friday dance parties, a long-standing tradition that brings staff, participants, and families together to make a memory.
The soundtrack? A mix of oldies on Pandora, with one clear crowd favorite serving as the unofficial theme song: "Sweet Caroline!" (Bomp Bomp Bomp!)
Meet the Mayor: Nurse Leigh
Every great community has a leader, and at Lake Boone Trail, that's Leigh. She's been Marcia's nurse for 10 years, and everyone knows her bubbly, fun-loving personality. From morning to evening, Leigh brings energy, joy, and exceptional care to every participant she serves.
