DEMENTIA SPECIFIC ACTIVITY PROGRAMS

Activity programs are designed specifically for Alzheimer’s and related dementia issues. Programs include exercise, special sensory programs such as aromatherapy, music, art, pet therapy, and cognitive enhancement activities. These activity programs are adapted to individual needs and preferences, and are designed to:

  • Trigger appetite and promote oral intake
  • Reduce wandering behavior and feelings of fear
  • Address diminished ability to focus
SAFE, ACCESSIBLE, AND WARM ENVIRONMENT

SarahCare has features that include accessible bathing facilities, handrails and grab bars, wheelchair accessible transportation, and specialized dining utensils and plates. Private dining in a quiet, soothing environment with specially designed sensory stimulation is available for those with late-stage dementia.

PERSON-CENTERED PLAN OF CARE

With the family’s and physician’s participation, an interdisciplinary team meets regularly to assess progress and revise the care plan to meet the cognitive, physical, and emotional needs of the participant. This regular assessment process may result in creative approaches that are especially beneficial for those experiencing negative behavior issues secondary to their dementia.
